A community health fair is scheduled for Saturday October 14, 2017 at 9:00 am at 90 Fairfield Ave, Stamford, CT. The Hispanic Advisory Council of Greater Stamford (HACGS) is a networking organization that brings together representatives of non-profits, governmental agencies as well as local businesses serving the Hispanic community. The purpose of the HACGS network is to share information about resources available to the community, announce initiatives, create relationships, find collaborators and seek cooperation and coordination on various initiatives and programs. The council, established in 1996, brings thousands of dollars worth of free health care services to one to two thousand participants annually. The council seeks to find ways to collaborate and cooperate and find ways to serve the Hispanic community more effectively and efficiently.

The health fair provides expensive testing not regularly accessible to the community free of charge. Local doctors, nurses and health practitioners come together to administer a multitude of important preventative tests including but not limited to, vein care services provided by the Center for Vein Restoration. Free flu vaccines courtesy of Walgreens (If you have insurance or Medicare please bring your card with you so that the free flu vaccines can be used for those who are uninsured), eye exams, dental and podiatry exams, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body fat analysis pulmonary function tests, a large kidney screening exhibit, confidential HIV testing, nurses will also educate on breast and testicular self-exams, Salsa and Zumba class, dance demonstrations and performance, FREE food provided by Nick’s Pizza and much more.

This is a completely unfunded event that brings thousands of dollars worth of free health care to those in need. This event is annually sponsored by local organizations and corporations passionate about serving and educating the community. Fun family friendly activities are also held to educate parents in caring for their children’s health, diet and dental hygiene.

The upcoming fair on October 14, 2017 will be the 24th annual all volunteer health fair to be held by HACGS. Organizers are once again looking for volunteers to help distribute flyers in the community to advertise the date and time of the event. Help is also needed the day of the health fair with registrations as well as interpreting for non-English speakers of Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, Gujrati and Hindi are especially needed. HACGS aspires to help those who serve the community more effectively. All are invited to share ideas, services and helpful information.
